One 8-hour live session Scrum Alliance microcredential Private training only

Optimizing Value Streams · Turn Friction into Flow

Your teams are busy.
Is the work actually moving?

Most organizations can't tell the difference between motion and progress. This course gives your coaches, leads, and product people a diagnostic lens for where value stalls — so you stop optimizing team velocity and start optimizing the system the work actually flows through.

Optimizing Value Streams: Turn Friction into Flow

What you'll learn

Stop guessing what to fix

Four modules that move your team from shipping features to proving impact — plus the diagnostic toolkit to back it up with data.

Module 01

Purpose, outcomes & excellence

Separate outcomes from outputs, compare frameworks like OKRs and North Star, and see how structure and technical excellence either enable or block sustainable results.

Module 02

Value streams, flow & constraints

Map current and future-state value streams across teams and functions, and learn where a process map stops being useful and a value-stream map takes over.

Module 03

Coaching continuous improvement

Apply tools and frameworks for improvement, compare structured versus discovery-based problem-solving, and see how complexity should shape your coaching choice.

Module 04

Hypotheses, metrics & impact

Validate hypotheses with real value metrics instead of vanity metrics, and connect the team's day-to-day work to customer and business impact leadership can see.

Key takeaways

What you'll walk away able to do

Distinguish outputs from outcomes to focus on customer impact. Map value streams to pinpoint constraints, delays, and hidden friction. Apply flow metrics to assess system predictability and health. Use the "Complexity Lens" to pick the right improvement strategy for any problem. Validate hypotheses with value metrics instead of vanity metrics. Communicate the business value of technical excellence to stakeholders.

Questions

Before you book

Is this offered as a public class?

Not currently — Optimizing Value Streams is private training only. We run it exclusively for individual teams and organizations so the exercises can use your own value streams instead of a generic example. Book a session →

Do I need prior coaching experience?

There's no formal prerequisite, but this is considered an advanced-level agile coaching course. Prior agile coaching experience, or a previous Scrum Alliance agile coaching course, is strongly recommended so the material lands well for your team.

What's the "Feature Factory"?

It's the trap of shipping feature after feature without knowing whether any of them solved a real customer problem. The course works through frameworks like OKRs and North Star metrics specifically to interrupt that cycle.

How is value stream mapping different from process mapping?

A process map shows how work is supposed to happen. A value stream map shows how value actually flows — including the handoffs and delays a process map tends to hide. You'll practice building both against real examples from your team.

What's the "Complexity Lens"?

A tool for recognizing when a problem needs a structured, root-cause approach versus a rapid, discovery-based one — so you stop applying the wrong method to the wrong problem.

Is there an exam?

No exam. Attend the full live session and participate, and we register you for the Scrum Alliance Optimizing Value Streams microcredential. Your digital badge follows shortly after.

Does it count toward my certification renewal?

Yes — members earn 8 SEUs and 8 PDUs for this course, which you can apply toward renewing your Scrum Alliance and PMI certifications. Your seat also includes a two-year Scrum Alliance membership.
